Madagascar is home to 12,271,250 women of reproductive age. In 2015, the government developed Madagascar’s National Roadmap (2015-2019) to reduce maternal mortality to 300 per 100,000 live births and neonatal mortality from 26 to 17 per 1,000 live births by 2019. Further, by 2020, the Madagascar Ministry of Health (MoH) aims to increase use of modern contraceptive methods among WRA to 50% and reduce unmet need for contraception to 9%. In 2017, a USAID-supported population-based survey was implemented to measure the modern Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (mCPR) and predictors of modern contraceptive use as a mid-line evaluation and to gauge needed level of effort to reach the country’s FP2020 goals.
