Self-care
Community forum series

When individuals are given the opportunity to become active agents in their health, this leads to improved health outcomes and helps achieve universal health coverage. Self-care has the potential to transform healthcare and enable people to take the power of their health into their own hands – if funding, policy, regulatory and other barriers are addressed to create a more enabling environment for self-care.

In order to ensure that these barriers and solutions are identified, the Self-Care Trailblazer Group (SCTG) is hosting a community forum series: four interactive dialogues held virtually over the next year focusing on the needs and wants of those engaging in self-care, ensuring that self-care interventions and behaviors are people-centered and community-owned, and elevating the voices of our consumers.

At the conclusion of the series, SCTG partners will use the global asks that came out of this forum to develop a policy brief with recommendations to policymakers, funders, and the global community on how to integrate self-care in UHC policies and guidelines and help advance self-care advocacy objectives.

Supporting youth through Self-care

On April 7th, 2021, the SCTG sought out the guidance from young people  to find solutions to improve youth’s access to self-care approaches and products. Through our very first community forum, hosted by youth leaders from IYAFP, Population Services International’s flagship adolescent contraceptive program A360, and Y-ACT, the SCTG convened a group of more than 50 young people to seek guidance on how best to tailor self-care approaches to young people, hear the challenges they face, and identify ways to reach young people.

Explore our youth advocates and leaders’ recommendations and lessons learned through the follow-up Q&A podcast and wrap-up report linked below.
