While working to strengthen the quality of malaria case management and prevention of malaria in pregnancy at the community-level in Ghana, the Ghana PMI Impact Malaria team supported the national malaria control program (NMCP) to implement internships for experienced community health officers (CHO) aimed at improving competencies in prevention and management of febrile illness in children and adults.
Based on the experience from Ghana, PMI Impact Malaria has developed this curriculum and training manual aimed at improving the knowledge and skills of community health workers (CHW) in malaria service delivery, since in most countries they are the frontline cadre engaged in community-based identification of pregnant women needing antenatal care (ANC) and community case management/referral of febrile illness in children and adults. Since the CHO cadre is specific to Ghana, the approach used there will be adapted based on each country’s scope of work for CHWs.
