Over the past decade, with the help of US foreign assistance, we have seen major gains in health for developing countries. Yet, last week, the Trump Administration released an initial budget proposal that includes deep cuts in the International Affairs Budget, which funds the U.S. Government’s overseas development funding. Cuts to these development programs will put these gains, and the health of people in the developing world, at risk.
The bipartisan US Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC), which uses diplomacy and development to enhance America’s engagement with the world, has created a new platform to help Americans voice their concerns about issues surrounding the new International Affairs budget:
PSI, which is a longtime member of the USGLC, urges all concerned citizens to use this tool from USGLC to reach out to your representatives in the House and Senate regarding the proposed cuts in foreign assistance.
Click the link here and enter your mobile phone number, address and zip code on the right side of the page. USGLC’s system will then call your representative, connecting their office with your phone so that you can leave a voicemail. If you need talking points, these are provided on the left hand side of the page. You’ll be able to leave messages with both of the Senators in your home state as well as your representative in the House. You’ll also be able to send an email.
This simple action is the first step we can all take to tell our representatives in Congress that we stand with women, children and families in the developing world, and will advocate for their right to live healthy lives. Please share this link to action with your social network to preserve this vital funding.
