In 2021, the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) announced a shift in policy to allow for financial support of Community Health Worker (CHW) salaries and stipends. An assessment was commissioned by PMI to contribute to filling the practical information gap on CHW financial compensation schemes across countries in sub-Saharan Africa as well as gather best practices and lessons learned from country experiences in implementing financial compensation schemes. The assessment was designed and implemented by PMI’s Impact Malaria project in consultation with members of the Child Health Task Force’s iCCM Subgroup and advisors from both PMI and USAID’s Africa Bureau. The assessment focused on seven countries as follows: Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Malawi, Mali, Niger and Zambia.
