PSI Research & Metrics was cited in the recent UNAIDS AIDS Epidemic Update, December 2009.
In a chapter presenting the latest HIV/AIDS statistics for Latin America, PSI/El Salvador’s TRaC studies on female sex workers (FSW) and men who have sex with men (MSM) were referenced as effective interventions to combat HIV/AIDS among populations at higher risk. These programs involved mass media campaigns and interpersonal communication (IPC) to encourage consistent condom use among FSW and MSM. Exposure to these messages was found to correlate with more consistent condom use in both groups. In a field in which few effective behavior-change programs have been observed, PSI/El Salvador is at the forefront of demonstrating health impact.
