In an effort to stem cases of diarrhoea outbreak in Nigeria, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in conjunction with Society for Family Health (SFH) has been working to end diarrhoea in children through its Expanded Social Marketing Project in Nigeria (ESMPN).
According to USAID, diarrhoea prevalence rate in Nigeria is 18.8 per cent and it remains one of the worst in sub-Sahara Africa.
USAID said diarrhea accounts for over 16 per cent of child deaths in Nigeria and about 150,000 deaths mainly amongst children under five occur annually due to this disease mainly caused by poor sanitation and hygiene practices.
