Proven in trials to reduce the risk of contracting HIV by 60%, male circumcision programs in Zimbabwe and other African countries are on the rise. Journalist Steve Vickers reports from Zimbabwe about the recent scale-up of male circumcision in the country through a partnership between PSI and the Government of Zimbabwe. To date 3,000 men have been circumcised, with a goal of nearly 3 million – 80% of Zimbabwe’s population – over the next 8 years. Only a few of Zimbabwe’s cultural and religious groups practice circumcision so PSI and the Zimbabwean government are working to educate men about the procedure and dispel myths.
