As recently as five years ago, malaria was the country’s top killer. But in just 18 months, Rwanda’s national malaria control program managed to cut the number of deaths from malaria by more than half. It’s an extraordinary success story, on that Karl Hofmann of Population Services International (PSI) argues comes down to one key factor: leadership.
