In highly malaria-endemic Southern Sudan, PSI and partners have made significant progress in controlling malaria but, IRIN reports, the region still has a long way to go before meeting all treatment and prevention targets. More than four million insecticide-treated mosquito nets have been distributed throughout Southern Sudan, covering 80% of its target population in areas where distribution campaigns took place. Treatment targets remain hard to reach and the most effective malaria drugs—artemisin-based combination therapy (ACT)—were completely unavailable at times.
