When PSI began implementing the USAID Central Asia HIV Flagship Activity in late 2015, it set out to achieve two goals: find cases of HIV and provide linkage to services for undiagnosed HIV cases; and perform case management for anti-retroviral therapy (ART) initiation and adherence. As PSI closes its part of the project at the end of this year and hands the reins to FHI360, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the Flagship Activity’s achievements and the people it has helped to live long, fulfilling lives.
Over the past two decades, more than 10,000 people in Kyrgyzstan have been diagnosed with HIV, and over 2000 have died. But HIV doesn’t have to be a death sentence—with HIV testing and treatment, people living with the virus can live healthy lives and keep their families healthy, too. Under the USAID Central Asia HIV Flagship Activity, 912 people in Kyrgyzstan have learned their status through HIV self-testing.
