In August 2019, PSI lost a beloved and long-serving PSI staff member, Andrew Boner, after a long battle with cancer. Andrew began his career at PSI in 1992 as a Program Assistant and served in many capacities, including as Country Representative in the Central African Republic, Eritrea, Nepal, Thailand and Zimbabwe and as Deputy Director for Southern Africa.
Andrew was known for his sunny, upbeat and “can do” attitude both in the field and at PSI HQ, with a dedication to delivering successfully for our clients no matter the challenge. He was also committed to mentoring his colleagues on the many teams he served. PSI was his extended family, and he is dearly missed.
In Andrew’s honor, PSI created the Andrew Boner Award, given to the PSIers who have distinguished themselves as excellent leaders and mentors. This year, the Award Committee named two inaugural winners: Bernard Mbulaje of PSI Tanzania and Mukesh Sharma of PSI India. There were many incredible nominees, all of whom embody many of Andrew’s tremendous attributes, but the Award Committee was especially struck by all that Bernard and Mukesh do as leaders and mentors to lift up and strengthen the work of their PSI colleagues. Congratulations to Bernard and Mukesh!
