In honor of this year’s World Water Week (August 27-September 1), PSI joins experts, practitioners, policymakers, business innovators and young professionals from all over the world in Stockholm, Sweden, to discuss the most pressing water-related challenges of today.
If you’re at #WWWeek Conference, join PSI and partner organizations Dasra and iDE for an informative side event on the implications of gender on the sanitation market.
Gender and the Sanitation Market
Tuesday 29 August
11-12:30pm
Market-based approaches have gained significant momentum as a means of increasing access to quality sanitation. These approaches harness market forces to stoke demand and build supply capacity for sanitation products and services. Ensuring that improvements in the sanitation market are gender inclusive requires a deep understanding and accounting of gender roles and norms. This side event will move beyond theory to drive the discussion on how to best incorporate gender-equity objectives into market-based approaches for improving access to quality sanitation products and services.
The event will draw on the experience of development practitioners and funders, each of whom is at a different stage in their journey to more effectively address gender considerations. We will also benefit from a variety of perspectives, including those who are thinking about gender policy at the global level and others whose focus is on translating global policy into local results, specifically in India. In each case, the discussion will center on actionable gender considerations specific to market-based approaches.
