Seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) campaigns are an effective, WHO-recommended intervention against malaria in children, but adherence to required medicines during the campaign is critical for successful protection. PMI Impact Malaria conducted a simple, low-cost survey with information self-reported by caregivers about adherence to providing the required medicine to their children in Niger’s Dosso region in 2020. The results demonstrated that coverage of SMC and adherence by caregivers to completing the full 3-day medication course was high, and can be improved for future campaigns. Expanding distributors’ training, developing, and providing them with tools for interpersonal communication, and strengthening supervision could lead to even higher adherence and protection against malaria during SMC campaigns.
