Washington, DC – PSI, one of the world’s leading global health organizations known for its market-based solutions to health, today announced the appointment of four new members to its governing board: Barbara Pierce Bush, the President of Global Health Corps and daughter of U.S. President George W. Bush, Harvard School of Public Health’s Clarence James Gamble Professor of Economics and Demography David Bloom, Tuck School of Business Professor Punam Keller and Ambassador Frans Engering of the Netherlands. Barbara Bush is currently serving as the President of Global Health Corps, an organization she co-founded in 2008. She’s traveled extensively in Africa, working with AIDS patients on nutrition and HIV prevention and treatment. In addition to being recognized as a Draper Richards Foundation Social Entrepreneur, she also sits on UNICEF’s Next Generation Steering Committee and on the Board of Directors for Covenant House International.
David Bloom is Clarence James Gamble Professor of Economics and Demography and Chair, Department of Global Health and Population, Harvard School of Public Health. Bloom is also faculty director of the Program on the Global Demography of Aging at Harvard University. He has published more than 300 articles, book chapters, and books in the fields of economics, health, and demography and has been honored with a number of distinctions, including election as Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and recipient of an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship. Bloom is an Adjunct Trustee of amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, and serves as a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Health Advisory Board and its Global Agenda Councils on Population Growth and on Ageing. Bloom is also a faculty research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research.
Ambassador Frans Engering is one of the most highly decorated foreign officials of the Netherlands. He served as the Ambassador of the Netherlands to South Africa and as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Prior to those posting he acted as Director-General for Foreign Economic Relations in the Netherlands Ministry of Economic Affairs and as Head of the Department of International Monetary Affairs and Director for Foreign Financial Relations in the Dutch Ministry of Finance. He is widely published on monetary theory and policy, international economic relations and international trade and investment.
Professor Punam Anand Keller is the Charles Henry Jones Third Century Professor of Management at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. She joined Tuck in 1998 as a full professor in the marketing area. Her current research focus is designing and implementing communication programs. Her research is supported by the National Cancer Institute, the Center for Disease Control, and the National Endowment for Financial Education.
