Listen to the podcast at Politico CLICK – Debra Messing’s Real-Life Movie
Actress Debra Messing spent Thursday becoming a Capitol Hill insider. “I was a fish out of water,” she confessed to the POLITICO Podcast.
Testifying in front of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health to talk about AIDS funding, the “Will & Grace” star and PSI Ambassador said, “It was like right out of a movie, I have to say. … It was thrilling.”
So what is more challenging — preparing for her next role or testifying? “There’s no question that preparing for the subcommittee was far more challenging,” she said.
After testifying, she played lobbyist and talked to Reps. Nita Lowey, Henry Waxman, Jeff Flake, Maxine Waters and Eliot Engel. Which was a dream come true for the star. “I am obsessed with punditry and watch all the political shows so this was a treat for me,” she said.
Next up for Messing, she’s due to play an “Ann Coulter-esque” pundit in a new ABC show “Wright vs. Wrong.” Has she heard from Coulter’s camp yet? “I would be thrilled to hear from her camp,” she said, “and thrilled to meet her.”
