Accelerating Malaria Elimination Through Private Sector Engagement: Dynamic Strategies to Better Localize Cases to Test, Treat and Track in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), at Marriot La Galerie 1/2 (2nd floor), 4pm
The Greater Mekong Subregion, an area with widespread resistance to artemisinin-combination therapies (ACT) used for the treatment of malaria, has been targeted for elimination of both P. falciparum and P. vivax malaria by 2030, primarily driven by the goal of protecting these drugs. As caseloads drop, foci of transmission, even among traditionally high-risk populations, become smaller and more difficult to identify. Approaches to testing, treating, and reporting therefore have to constantly be refined in response to a more elusive target. Speakers will demonstrate the importance of engaging the private sector if elimination is to be achieved, and dynamic, innovative, and reliable strategies to do so.
Participants include:
M. James Eliades (co-chair), PSI Myanmar, Yangon, Myanmar
Abigail Pratt (co-chair), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle, Washington
Rabindra Abeyasinghe, World Health Organization, Manila, Philippines
