The Barb Jones Memorial Fund
The Barb Jones Memorial Fund was created through a generous legacy gift from Barb Jones, a member of PSI’s Maverick Collective, to support women’s and girl’s health around the world.
Barbara Jones was a philanthropist, civic leader and community volunteer dedicated to transforming the lives of women and girls and helping to end gender-based violence (GBV) worldwide. As a Founding Member of Maverick Collective, Barb’s work challenged the deeply entrenched social norms of violence against women in Myanmar. Her catalytic project worked through community education and awareness campaigns, using mass media and skits to reduce the stigma of GBV. Private healthcare providers in over 1,000 PSI franchised clinics – the Sun Quality Health Network – were trained to recognize signs and symptoms of GBV and to refer women to essential support services. Always promoting partnership, Barb’s work in Myanmar also strengthened the capacity of local nonprofits that promote gender equity, providing the tools and training to advocate for an end to gender violence in their communities.
Barb spent her life acting on her commitment to women and girls through advocacy and philanthropy. The Barb Jones Memorial Fund, created through her generous legacy gift and in honor of her dedication to gender equality, supports PSI’s work with women and girls through expanding access to essential health services, strengthening family planning initiatives, combatting gender-based violence, and advocating for maternal and menstrual health.
