Actress, singer-songwriter and Population Services International (PSI) ambassador Mandy Moore is in Trinidad & Tobago this week with gender-based violence survivor, philanthropist and advocate Indrani Goradia to help stop violence against women and girls. The women will help launch PSI’s new Gender-Based Violence program in Trinidad & Tobago.
Follow along on Twitter using #MakeItStop, as the pair visits a shelter for survivors of gender-based violence, talks to students about current gender attitudes and norms, and visits a birthing center that incorporates gender-based violence screenings into regular check-ups in order to more effectively reach individuals at risk. Moore and Goradia will also help launch a new program that seeks to coordinate services among local NGOs working in the gender violence space in order reduce inefficiencies and scale impact.
Moore has long advocated for the issues that affect women and girls, traveling through Africa and Southeast Asia and testifying on Capitol Hill. A Young Global Shaper for the World Economic Forum, as well as a speaker at the Clinton Global Initiative University, Moore will help bring light to why NOW is the time to end this epidemic. Trinidad & Tobago is the home country of Goradia, a founding member of a groundbreaking philanthropic and advocacy initiative that invests in dynamic pilot projects. Goradia is one of a new breed of women changing the way that health programs are delivered to girls and women. To hear directly from Goradia, follow her on Twitter at @Indranis_Light.
Moore’s travelogue, videos, and photos will be posted throughout the trip at psiimpact.org/makeitstop
