PSI Briefing on "Curbing HIV in Drug-Driven Epidemics Worldwide" Washington, DC, December 6 — Robert Gray, PSI's Laos-based Regional Representative for Asia, gave a briefing on Capitol Hill titled "Curbing HIV in Drug-Driven Epidemics Worldwide." The briefing covered PSI's innovative efforts in Central Asia to reduce young people's risk for HIV infection by measurably reducing the number of youth who begin injecting drugs. Following Mr. Gray's presentation, he and legislative expert Zoe Hudson, Senior Policy Analyst at the Open Society Institute, held a discussion with audience members about PSI's work and other efforts the U.S. government can support to most effectively reduce the spread of HIV in places where the epidemic is driven by injecting drug use. PSI and other organizations are advocating for the upcoming reauthorization of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to better address preventing HIV in parts of the world where illegal drug trafficking thrives.
