PSI Board Member Gives Capitol Hill Briefing

WASHINGTON, DC, October 16 — Nairobi-based PSI Board Member Dr. Rehana Ahmed spoke to a Capitol Hill audience about the benefits and challenges of integrating HIV prevention with family planning services. Dr. Rehana met beforehand with U.S. Representative Betty McCollum (MN-4th), the event's main congressional sponsor, to discuss their common interests and concerns regarding global health. Rep. McCollum then introduced Dr. Rehana to a room filled with bipartisan congressional staff and members of advocacy and implementer groups, who warmly received her presentation and asked a variety of questions. The topic is timely in light of the upcoming congressional reauthorization of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which will likely contain language promoting stronger links between reproductive health and HIV prevention.
