PSI at the 2008 Global Health Conference

WASHINGTON, DC, May 30, 2008 — PSI headquarters and overseas staff presented and discussed their global health work at the 2008 Global Health Conference on Community Health here May 27-30. PSI is a sponsor of the annual conference and will have a week-long presence in Booth 316 of the exhibit hall.

PSI Acting HIV Director Dvora Joseph moderated a policy series session called “Next Steps for the Lantos-Hyde US Leadership Act Against HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria,” from 8:30-10:30 am on Thursday, May 29 in the Diplomat Ballroom

PSI’s work was featured in the following technical sessions.

  • Tuesday, May 27, 3:00- 5:00 pm: Panel discussion on “Starting with the Basics: Interventions for Diarrhea Management,” featuring Dr. Y.V. Pradhan of Child Health Division of the Ministry of Health and Population, Government of Nepal.
  • Tuesday, May 27, 7:00-9:00 pm: Panel discussion on “Moving Toward Eradication: Malaria’s Next Frontiers” featuring Uzo Gilpin of PSI and the Society for Family Health/Nigeria and sponsored by Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, Jhpiego and PATH.
  • Wednesday, May 28, 9:45-11:45 am: Panel on "On the Ground: Community Partnerships for Malaria Prevention & Control" featuring Doug Call of PSI/Madagascar.
  • Thursday, May 29, 2:30-4:30 pm: Roundtable on “Working with Private Providers to Reach High Risk Communities” featuring Saswati Sinha of PSI/India and sponsored by IntraHealth International.
  • Thursday, May 29, 2:30-4:30 pm: Roundtable on “Using Evidence to Inform Community-Based Programs in Laos,” featuring Elena Olivi of PSI/Laos.

PSI overseas staff presented the following poster sessions from 10:30 am-12:30 pm on Thursday, May 29 in the Blue Room Pre-Function area. All poster presenters were available during the Thursday morning session to speak with participants about their work. The poster gallery remained up for viewing until 2:00 pm on Friday, May 30:
